Some matters require more than confirming the leading explanation. Aperture can deliberately test assumptions, search for conflicting and disconfirming evidence, examine alternative hypotheses, challenge source reliability and identify the conditions under which an existing conclusion would fail.

The purpose is not to manufacture doubt. It is to determine whether the conclusion survives serious scrutiny.
